How can you use it with reasonable privacy?

It is simple: there is a large community, and because of that, its the best place to have a discourse about nearly anything. IRC doesn't compare, Matrix doesn't compare.

With that said, considering every employee in their "trust and safety" section can view anyone's message history at any point, as well as all of the other data they harvest, including your fingerprint, it would seem crucial to:

1) anonymize your very first connection, and all of the other ones. Using a proxy/vpn is obvious, but it needs to be done automatically, so that you never open it without it by accident.

2) easily access multiple accounts, one for each community, so that you can remain anonymous in other ones, even if you're de-anonymized in one of them.

3) optionally phone friendly, but not necessarily. also how would i go about isolating it, if i were to use it on my phone?

So, what are my options? Bridges aren't really an option, since you need to have a bot in the server, and obviously most large servers will not be okay with that, and you would also need to have main discord accounts to ask for that, anyway.

I would like to be able to access all of my accounts from one place, just with the ability to switch them, like I would on regular discord, but I would like all of my connections to be routed through proxies (different proxy for each account, automated). Does anyone have an idea of how I might approach this?

You can write a shell script to do that with proxychains-ng if you're on Linux. Or you use QubesOS and configure a dedicated NetVM to do that.

Even though it's technically possibly to setup something like that, (you) will not be anonymous with discord, ever. Stop using such proprietary malware and use open, encrypted protocols instead like XMPP with OTR/OMEMO/PGP over I2P. No, it doesn't. I have interests which don't have a community on IRCs. IRCs are also inherently less anonymous, and because they're such small communities, you're likely to encounter the same people in various different ones, making it harder to remain truly anonymous

Yes. Yes, they do. They add another layer between me and whatever I want to access. That is good by me. 2 vpns between me and whatever I'm trying to access is enough to ensure that I'm reasonably anonymous. Discord has a very strict account risk system. This is all just speculation, but if you
- switch IPs frequently
- don't use residential IPs
- don't have a phone number verified with your account
- don't have an email verified with your account
- your verified email is not from gmail
- you frequent "suspicious servers"
- create multiple accounts
- have a weird browser fingerprint
- use the web version
- have noscript/ublock installed
- upload large files

your account will get very quickly asked for email, then phone, then straight up banned till appeal. opal wrote about his experience and it should've only gotten significantly worse since 2020

Before you point out, that IRC is still an insecure protocol, it's true, that it is way beyond, but XMPP exists and you can use it.
see P14914 for more information on it. Basically it's a federated, open protocol, that works with Off-The-Record, OMEMO or PGP encryption, also perfectly fine over I2P, Yggdrasil and Tor. Just self-host it on a Raspberry Pi and connect it over Tor. There is a lot of communities for XMPP too, although by far less than with IRC.
