I'm just returning this and telling them "The disc doesn't work on my device, because Warner Brothers are *****ing dipshits and ENCRYPTED THEIR *****ING DVD just to give computer users trouble". Oh, right, the store says you can't return it after the seal is broken to scam customers that buy DVDs that don't play in DVD drives, but require special hardware the entertainment companies have made agreements with (which is an anti-competitive move by encrypted DVD makers and DVD player companies).

And I'm not buying DVDs or Blu-rays anymore. I can't use it on a computer without downloading a literal encryption cracking program.

Why was copyright protection ever extended to entertainment media anyway? There's no utilitarian value to entertainment media that justifies it. Copyright protection is supposed to give people that produce something useful for society an ability to make a profit for a limited period of time even when people could just copy their invention and mass produce it themselves for a profit without the inventor.

This bullshit came out of the USA's bullshit legal and economic environment. I'm tired of the deranged chaos. I'm tired of all the bullshit here.

I'm giving this DVD to the public library, I guess.

Now thousands of people will be able to watch it for free, legally, and there's nothing the entertainment companies that gave me a headache can do about it.

Next time you're cleaning out your house of old commercial dvds, give it to the public library or just create a neighborhood dvd sharing box.
P107932 link reply
Here's what I expect would happen if you eliminated copyright protections for entertainment media:

1. CDs and purchases of songs from internet stores would vanish, with free mp3s still being released to advertise concerts, shifting the song industry from recordings to live performances, eliminating the business model of record labels and their manufactured pop stars.

2. Hollywood disappears and cartoons vanish from the entertainment sphere, unless propaganda financiers pay the whole cost of production (no more subsidies by tricking consumers into paying for propaganda). The enacted stories shift to live performances and funding by donations.

3. Junk fiction novels vanish. Only the people that really want to tell a fake story write and distribute their literature for free.

4. Many video producers switch to producing educational media that still have copyright protections (documentaries, teaching courses).

5. ***** companies vanish or are rebranded as educational media somehow.

6. All video games are either funded with crowd funding, made as a hobby, or are online games with in game stores or are subscription games.

Does that even sound bad? Does it sound like a realistic outcome, or have I missed something?

blatantly incorrect. you sound like denpa
copyright never had anything to do with inventions, you are mistaking it for patents
copyright gives a monopoly over whatever dreams you had last night so that other ppl cant retell your dreams to others without your permission
but yea, its a retarded law and it keeps getting more retarded over time
copyright, once upon a time, actually only applied to copies, hence COPYright

You can probably yarrrr it from Postman's tracker/I2p. Most Hollywood types are leftists so I don't care if I rip them off anymore.

Copying does wreck income via artistic works. That's just how it is. Music acts don't make much money anymore from album sales but rather from touring/mech sales.

A library copy of a disc gets seen by a few thousand people max before it decays.

You're talking about worldwide distribution of Hollywood garbage, at a cost to myself. I'm upset about the ridiculousness of the current environment, but not in the business of giving greater reach to what is probably just psychological warfare than it already has. I'm sure it's already been ripped anyway.

I guess I'm being contradictory today, now I'm uncertain. I recognize the contradiction. Maybe it's not a good idea to give the disc to the library. I haven't even watched it yet, don't know what kind of Jewish psychobabble and fictional deceptive life messages are built into the story, as told by Hollywood.

Government isn't supposed to be like this. And it's questionable whether this qualifies as a government at all, because these people don't even defend their legal jurisdiction against other law enforcements, allowing Mexican cartels, Han Chinese secret police stations, and Sharia law enforcers to set up in the territory they claim to govern. A government has an exclusive legal jurisdiction, these regimes don't. Rather, these regimes are just front groups for foreign mafias, they don't care about the laws, they don't care about the territory, they don't care about the people, and so they really are more of an imposter government, a group of criminals that claim they are the government without meeting the defintion of it.

All commercial DVDs are encrypted. Windows and Mac have secret code to decrypt and play the DVDs. libdvdcss is basically an open source version of the secret decryption code. You're not going to find a magic unencrypted DVD just use libdvdcss that's why it exists.

i2pbote i2p bote mail. Not maintained anymore I'm pretty sure.

There's also some site that will allow you to send mail. It basically just uploads it and downloads it to DHT tables encrypted.
P108600 link reply
The DHTs tables storing messages makes it so you can't easily tell who recieved the message and encryption ensures on the intended recipient can use it (as long as the encryption holds) and it allows a time delay so you don't have to have a server running all the time.

That's how i2p does email generally, though you can actually just make an eepsite email server and keep it on all the time, that would work too.

This could be done with libmpv and a simple T***** protocol where the server broadcasts (timestamp, servertime) pairs to all clients. This will work as long as everyone has synchronized system clocks.

I don't see why entertainment media gets legal protections.

Legal protections are supposed to give a profit capturing mechanism for societally useful things like new inventions and movies, sitcoms, video games, and music don't seem to be worthy of legal protections.

Like, someone that invented something tangibly useful should profit from their invention and not have their profits taken by someone that just ripped the design, because that funds further research and development. But we don't need the same legal protections for entertainment media, which have no tangible benefit to society.

Like, the basic layer of the bullshit is actually deeper and comes from legal protections for things that don't deserve it.
P112195 link reply
If the entire entertainment media industry disappeared tomorrow, would that hurt or benefit society?

I'm betting it would benefit society greatly.

Then if you wanted intellectual stimulation, you'd be watching education courses instead of watching movies about a comic book character from the 1970's who is now a Latinix trans-rights open borders advocate.

And like, entertainment media has always been full of malicious subversive shit, because fictional stories can exploit glitches in the brain by educating them with fictional life lessons that don't work in reality.

In a fictional story, you can say that sticking fire crackers up your ass and lighting them gives you superpowers and everything works out if you just do that, and some people confuse reality with fiction, especially *****ren, and absorb that life lesson even though it is actually malicious and harmful. Fictional entertainment media has always been a severe civilizational liability for that reason.
P112196 link reply
A fictional story is a kind of lying. And it's hazardous. There's an advantage to not making up fictional stories or consuming them, since it allows your thought processes to be more in line with reality. Consider briefly a problem you have, and take note of when you reference fictional stories while trying to decide how to approach that problem, then realize the situation in the fictional story was fictional and doesn't have to have any bearing on reality.

You can make a story where the character just acts like an idiot, and everything always turns out great for them because they acted like an idiot. Some people try to solve their life problems using that information as a factor in their decision making. And the people that made that fictional story are totally malicious, deliberately misinforming people about functional life strategies to ruin their lives.

When I was a kid, I was watching a TV sitcom for ***** and my dad turned off the TV and explained to me that exposure to toxic waste didn't give anyone superpowers, and explained that TV stories were lies and to not do something because the TV presented it as a good idea.

The USA's TV censors saw no problem with pushing genotoxic racial hybridization and promoting the idea that exposure to toxic waste was a positive, even on shows aimed at small *****ren. Their bloodlines should be exterminated for treason, since their clearance of this show was clearly malicious. I wonder how many little ***** they got killed while promoting the idea that toxic waste had positives, something they did in academia as well to evade pollution regulations and food safety standards, promoting the idea that a little toxic waste in your body was actually beneficial, "hormesis".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hormesis

Justice is done after the crimes are committed. There is no valid reason not to go after the bloodlines that conspired against the West historically. Why should their families get a future after they plotted against our families? Why should their *****ren get to live when our *****ren died because of their family? It's easy enough to look up the bloodlines of the producers of this malicious TV show.

I didn't notice modern DVDs didn't work on a computer DVD player anymore because I haven't bought a DVD that was produced after that change for so long.

I don't feel any sorrow watching Hollywood trash media. Hollywood media has become so oppressively preachy and mediocre I am not sure the last time I watched a full Hollywood movie before turning it off.

Once I tried watching the DVD in question, I just threw it away because it was trash on so many levels, I could tell that from the first minute. The historical innaccuracies were offensive to me, they did up the main character as a dark featured mutt.

I wonder if part of why I don't watch Hollywood media anymore is because they keep putting ugly mixed race people and foreigners in everything. Like, do they not realize how off putting that is? They're supported by infinite money from the loan sharks, robbing us anonymously to support the production of crude filth, that's why they don't care if no one even watches their mediocre oppressive garbage.
