I heard Fraser is a good guy. The movie got good reviews.

Fraser was great in it. Towards the end the movie gets somewhat disappointing, the acting was engaging but I didn't feel the last scene. Guess I didn't like the gimmick of the announced death, maybe because it's an adaption of a play and modern theater usually feel unauthentic and gimmicky to me. The drama aspect was weak compared to the comedy fraser could bring out of his character imho. The missionary guy was funny too. All in all, an interesting look at the realities of being such a gigantic blob.
I hadn't realize someone could eat himself to death, maybe that menhera from the netherlands should give it a try.

Was expecting the usual A24 slop, not liking the colors in the poster, I was wrong. Asians are good at touching on the themes of time and memory, even the ones who have moved to North America. Good acting and cinematography. Nice soundtrack. Soppiness level is over 9000 but this was very well crafted overall. Still, you can find more refreshing takes on the same topics from asian directors who aren't paying rent in New York. The female perspective can be annoying if you are feeling bitter towards those whores, but I actually found it interesting.

I didn't know that Andrew Garfield was able to give a performance like this one, and I had seen Silence, where his ugly face still bothered me.

The first one is more of a classic horror which builds suspense while you try to figure out what's going on. The rest are more like typical hollywood ADHD action/action/action movies. This has been the only fun flick out of the 4-5 movies screened at Cannes this year that I've managed to watch (I didn't choose wisely, to be honest). Initially titled Kowloon Walled City, set to be co-directed by John Woo and Johnnie To and starring Chow Yun-fat, everything was suggesting kino of the highest order, but the project had been in development hell for 15-20 years and eventually it was abandoned by the two directors and its original cast.
So I didn't harbor great expectations when I've found out they eventually managed to put out a finished product, even title has been changed, but the setting of the story remained the same. I was really curious to see the Walled City they recreated.
In the end, I really enjoyed the set design, such a fun environment for a movie. I was also expecting entertaining fighting scenes. They weren't bad, I would have done without the magic tricks associated with the martial arts, but the story is based on a manhua so I guess this explain the cartoonish side of it. What was actually disappointing were the lame villains. Hong Kong are often over the top, but I was expecting something more gritty. Nonetheless, I had a good time. I don't remember much else about it.
